Mr. Saviour Aquilina is the Head of the Aviation Security Department within the Ministry for Home Affairs, Security, and Employment. His responsibilities include overseeing essential aspects of aviation security policies and their implementation in Malta. Prior to his current position, Mr. Aquilina held roles within the same Aviation Security Department and served as a Seconded National Expert at the European Commission’s DG Move in Brussels – an experience which provided him with valuable insights into aviation security policy-making at the European level.

Before entering the field of aviation security, Mr. Aquilina had joined the Maltese Civil Service in 2007 as Deputy Registrar and Head of the Judicial Sale by Auction Section at the Courts of Justice, in Valletta, where he managed national auctions.

Mr. Aquilina’s academic background includes postgraduate degrees in Law and Diplomatic Studies from the University of Malta, focusing on international law, diplomacy, and the positive influences of tourism on diplomatic relations. His expertise in international relations informs his approach to aviation security and policy development, contributing to the security of Malta’s aviation industry.
